THE NEW GOODNESS: January ’16 Picks

By Glenn Oliveiro & Simon Foster

Camikaze – Shadows ft. Zoe A’dore

A new one from Mandurah based producer Camikaze. After a huge official remix for Peking Duk which received much airplay on Triple J, he teamed up with fellow Perth singer/songwriter Zoe A’Dore for this absolute belter. With some more experimental tunes in the works, we’re sure you’re going to hear a lot from this guy!

Flume – Never Be Like You ft. Kai

Flume graces us with a new single for his much anticipated sophomore album Skin, and it’s absolutely huge: ‘Never Be Like You’ featuring vocals from Canadian singer Kai. His latest effort involves ambient fused trap and future bass feels, with Kai’s songwriting focusing on forgiveness and human imperfection.

Torro Torro – Make A Move (Skrillex Remix)

Last month we featured Skrillex’s remix of ‘Red Lips’ by GTA, and he has now dropped another dubstep banger, his remix of Torro Torro’s ‘Make A Move’. A heavy hitter and aggressive in its nature, something sure to please Skrillex fans everywhere.

Keys N Krates – Nothing But Space ft. Aqui

The Toronto trio released this month ‘Nothing But Space’ featuring Aqui, a very catchy record that’s worth listening to. Its drum patterns are to be applauded, melodic synths that feel chilled out, and Aqui’s vocals complimenting the production very well.

Kanye West – Real Friends

‘Real Friends’ delivers subject matter in its lyrics that yields something open and earnest from a vulnerable place, with production Kanye made in collaboration with Frank Dukes, Boi-1da and Mobb Deep’s Havoc, that is very Madlib and J Dilla inspired. It sounds reminiscent of a time period early in his career, that will make fans think the Kanye of old is back. While not credited in the title, it also features vocals from Ty Dolla Sign.

Direct – Lark

Some serious Burial vibes this month from New Jersey based protege Direct with his new song, Lark. The tune can be described as downtempo, dark and brooding.

KNRE x Jupe – Quartzz

This month KRNE and Jupe released an absolute belter this month through KRNE’s new project ‘Sessions.’ Sessions is a unique idea where he collaborates with as many producers as possible and also releases them through a pseudo record label. We can be guaranteed more great collaborations if it goes well.
